SORT
Buy cardboard boxes and other supplies such as tapes, bubble wraps and markers. Go through all your things at home and decide on what things you want to keep and those that you want to get rid of. Keep a tab of those things that may require extra insurance when you move

CREATE A MOVING BINDER
Use this binder to track everything - notes, reminders, contact numbers, receipts, estimates and an inventory of all the items you're moving

ORGANISE SCHOOL RECORDS
If you have kids, you might want to find a new school as early as 2 months before you move and have their records ready for transfer.

STAY CONNECTED

Search online to find TV, Broadband and phone deals in your area so that days after your arrival, you can go ahead and have them connected.

CHOOSE YOUR MOVER
It might be best if you can choose your mover as early as 6 weeks before you move and confirm with them your moving date, the cost and other details.

TAKE MEASUREMENTS

During your visit to your new home, know the dimensions of every room if possible so that you know where to put your furniture when you arrive and also to determine whether it will fit through the door.

BEGIN PACKING
Start packing things that you don't use often. Take note of things that might require additional insurance from your moving company. Clearly label each numbered box with its content and to what room it is designated, this way you can get your things organised when you take them out of the box. As for things such as jewelries, files, documents and such, place them in a safe box that you can carry with you when you move.

NOTIFY IMPORTANT PARTIES

Inform your banks, brokerage firms, the magazine or newspaper you subscribe to, credit card, insurance and utility companies. Settle all your accounts and take care of utility services that needed to be cut off or transferred. Also, you can arrange medical records to be transferred or you can obtain a copy of them yourself. If you'll be changing banks, remove the contents of your safety deposit box and put them in the safe box that you'll be carrying with you on moving day.

Two weeks to go and by now, you are almost ready for the move!

ARRANGE TIME OFF

If you are planning to keep your current job, it is best that you inform your company that you will be moving and apply a leave of absence for the move. Inform them that you need to supervise the move and therefore would need to take a day or a week off work.

TUNE UP
Make sure your car is conditioned for long distance travel if your moving far, you would want to avoid any problems along the road especially on moving day.

Moving day is right around the corner! By this time all your things have been packed up

PACK YOUR SUITCASE
Finish your general packing a few days before the moving date. Pack clothes for everyone, enough to wear for a few days. Prepare prescriptions needed by family members during the next couple of weeks plus it's better to travel with a first aid kit in case of emergency.

DEFROST THE FREEZER
If you are going to take your refrigerator with you, make sure to clean and empty its contents and defrost it for at least 24 hours before moving day.

Few days before moving

CONFIRM AND VERIFY
Confirm for the last time with your moving company the schedule and arrival of your moving truck and make sure that the truck will show up is from the company you hired. Prepare exact written directions to your new home for the staff, because you don't want your stuff to end up in the wrong neighbourhood. It's also best to include information such as your contact number so that they can contact you if problems or any concerns arise. Make arrangements for the payment of the mover.

Moving Day!

The moment has finally arrived! If you're feeling a bit giddy, excited, a little bit anxious then it's totally normal.
DOUBLE CHECK

Double check the things that you need to load on the moving truck. Also make sure that the moving truck which shows up is from the company. Check the Company Logo and other specification and information indicating that it is from the company your hired.

TAKE INVENTORY
Before the movers leave, sign the bill or inventory list and keep a copy.

Lastly, DRIVE SAFE!

Post move

Of course you would want to settle down as soon as you've arrived at your new home but that may seem impossible as there are things to unpack and furniture to arrange but take it easy! A good nap and a shower might be the first best thing to do so make sure you have your toiletries and bedding or at least a comfy pillow with you. Granted that you aren't settled in yet, you'd want to order some take outs for the family for a few days. Give it a day or two to familiarise yourself with the place and get to know your neighbours! Host a House Warming Party as soon as you have settled in. We understand that house moving is stressful enough so we are here to help you with your House Warming Party Invites and Thank You Cards!
